Betting firm Betika has dismissed reports suggesting it was the victim of a cyberattack that led to the loss of Sh11 million, insisting its systems remain uncompromised and customer data secure.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the company clarified that it has not suffered any cybersecurity breach and is neither a complainant nor a victim in the matter currently before the courts.
“Betika has not experienced any cybersecurity breach, nor has the company lost KSh11 million as has been suggested. This fact can be independently verified with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who are handling the case,” said Katherine Arudo, Betika’s Group Head of PR & Communications.
The clarification follows media reports linking the betting firm to an alleged fraud case involving a suspect accused of siphoning funds from another company.
Ms. Arudo added that Betika operates with strict adherence to international standards of information security, employing multi-layered systems including encryption, intrusion detection, continuous monitoring, and third-party audits.
“Our systems remain uncompromised, and customer data has not been breached. We strictly adhere to global best practices in information security as well as relevant data protection regulations,” she said.
The company further highlighted ongoing investments in cybersecurity, citing regular audits, staff training, and close collaboration with regulators and law enforcement to address emerging digital threats.
Betika has urged media outlets to ensure accuracy in their reporting on the matter to avoid misrepresentation.
