Athletics Kenya (AK) has sounded an alarm over a document being circulated by unscrupulous individuals, falsely claiming to be the federation’s revised constitution.

In a statement, AK clarified that it has no knowledge of or involvement in the distribution of this document.

“Athletics Kenya (AK) is deeply concerned about reports of a group of individuals who have purportedly created a new or revised constitution for the federation. We want to clearly state that AK is not associated with this document nor the flawed process behind it,” the federation said.

AK also criticized the authors of the fake constitution, accusing them of acting in bad faith and with no regard for the sport. The federation described the document as a disruption to an already packed schedule for Kenyan athletes.

“The supposed constitution is a fictitious creation by a few individuals with selfish motives, who have forged the federation’s letterhead and logo to further their personal interests. The disorganized manner in which it is written clearly shows that it lacks any form of public participation, which is a key component of any legitimate constitution-making process,” the statement added.

The federation reassured the public that any genuine constitutional amendments would follow proper legal procedures and be communicated transparently.

“AK is a body committed to the rule of law and adheres to established processes when undertaking tasks such as amending our constitution. We also have a policy of open and clear communication, and we will use all media platforms to inform the public well in advance should we decide to amend our constitution,” AK stated.

As the federation focuses on a busy competition calendar, it is preparing for several national events leading up to international assignments.

These include the National Cross-Country Championships (February 8), the Sirikwa Cross Country World Tour (February 22), trials for the National Under 18 and Under 20 teams, the National Championships, and the Track and Field Weekend meetings, among others.
