Singer and entrepreneur Akothee has strongly responded to online criticism after a photo of her in the company of a mzungu sparked heated reactions on social media.

In a blunt statement, Akothee accused some Kenyans of what she termed as selective amnesia, calling out social media users for jumping to conclusions whenever she is seen with a foreigner.

She clarified that the individuals in the photo were golfers and not romantic partners, urging critics to stop spreading misleading narratives.

“You have a degree in smearing people with mud. If I find this foto on your wall with useless caption I will take action against you. 2026 we are sanitising this streets .you cant be broke stupid and bitter at the sane time choose a struggle we shall fix one of the above,”she said.

Akothee condemned what she described as uncivilised and defamatory comments, warning that she would take action against anyone sharing the image with offensive or false captions.

She criticised the culture of online shaming, saying some users had perfected the habit of smearing others with mud.

The outspoken musician also took aim at online negativity, urging critics to grow up and respect people’s personal lives.

She warned that continued harassment would not be tolerated, noting that efforts are underway to sanitise digital spaces.
