Members of Bunge La Mwananchi convened to address and clarify recent misinformation involving Garissa County officials.
At the heart of the matter are allegations against Senator Abdul Hajj, accused by the Garissa Woman Representative of involvement in clanism and clashes.
These claims, however, are baseless and distort the reality of the situation. The tragic loss of six young men from Senator Hajj’s clan during inter-clan violence is a matter of great sorrow. However, this does not implicate the Senator in any wrongdoing.
On the contrary, Senator Hajj has actively worked to promote peace, including compensating the bereaved families to prevent retaliatory violence.
His consistent advocacy for peaceful coexistence reflects his commitment to harmony among all communities in Garissa County.
Bunge La Mwananchi issued a public statement to retract the misinformation and urge restraint in spreading unverified claims that could fuel further discord.
They also called on the Woman Representative to uphold leadership integrity as outlined in Kenya’s Constitution. An apology to Senator Hajj was extended as a step toward reconciliation.
The group further recommended that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summon the Woman Representative to explain her statements.
They emphasized that security matters should never be politicized or exploited for personal gain.
The peace and stability of Garissa County must remain paramount.
Public figures are urged to prioritize community well-being, fostering harmony and constructive dialogue to ensure a united and secure future for all residents.
