More than 5,000 residents in Imenti Central Constituency, Meru County, are expected to benefit from improved access to clean and safe water following the implementation of several water projects targeting the region.

Water and Irrigation Principal Secretary Eng. Eric Mugaa inspected the Kaari Water Project in Katheri Location and held a public participation forum on the proposed Baraka-Kimuri, Weru and Kaathi Mutethia Water Projects.

The Kaari Water Project, which is currently 60 per cent complete, involves the rehabilitation of the existing main water line, transmission main line and distribution lines, alongside the construction of a Break Pressure Tank (BPT).

According to Mugaa, the projects are expected to improve water access for local households while supporting agricultural production, food security and economic resilience in the region.

Following the inspection, the Principal Secretary directed the implementing agency, Tana Water Works Development Agency, to invoke relevant contractual provisions over the contractor’s absence from the construction site.

He further instructed the agency to explore alternative measures to accelerate the works and ensure the project is completed within the required timelines.

The directive comes amid efforts to address delays in infrastructure projects and ensure residents benefit from government-funded water investments.

Mugaa was accompanied during the inspection and public participation exercise by Central Imenti MP Moses Kirima Nguchine, Nominated MP Dorothy Muthoni, National Government Administration Officers and local leaders.

The public participation forums provided an opportunity for residents and other stakeholders to engage on the Baraka-Kimuri, Weru and Kaathi Mutethia water projects.

Once completed, the projects are expected to strengthen water supply in the constituency, reduce challenges associated with access to safe water and support livelihoods dependent on agriculture.
