Sugarcane farmers will elect their representatives to the Kenya Sugar Board on November 24, 2026, after the Elections Committee announced the polling date and confirmed that the final voters’ register had been published.

In a notice dated October 30, the committee said the register was available on the Kenya Sugar Board website and had also been displayed physically at designated facilities.

Farmers have been asked to check the register ahead of the election to confirm their details and eligibility to vote.

The notice was issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and signed by Elections Committee Chairperson Harun Khator.

“The public and sugar crop growers are hereby notified that the election of grower representatives to the Kenya Sugar Board will be carried out on 24th November, 2026,” the notice stated.

The committee also said the exercise would be conducted in line with the law and relevant court orders.

The announcement brings the election process closer to the voting stage, following several months of preparations.

The process started on May 12, 2026, when the committee invited applications from interested candidates in the different sugar-growing areas. The application period was later extended through a notice issued on August 7.

On August 20, the committee published the final list of candidates who would contest the positions.

The release of the voter list is another major process that allows the qualified farmers to be sure of whether their names are listed or not before voting. According to the committee, it has released the voter list according to rule 9(7) of Procedure for Election of Grower Representatives to the Kenya Sugar Board, 2025.

The elections will take place according to Section 6 of the Sugar Act, No. 11 of 2024. This act outlines the structure of the Kenya Sugar Board and the election of growers’ representatives.

Growers’ representatives elected will become members of the board and be expected to speak on behalf of sugarcane growers.

The committee did not give details of polling hours or individual polling stations in its October 30 notice. Farmers will have to rely on further official communication for information on where and when to cast their votes.
