The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has trained Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers on investigative interviewing as part of efforts to improve how investigations are conducted.
The five-day training, held from October 19 to 23, 2026, was conducted through the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA).
It covered how to prepare for interviews, question suspects, handle vulnerable persons and record interviews in line with Kenyan law.
The officers were also taken through the psychology of interviewing and the PEACE model, a method used to guide investigators when questioning people during investigations.
Other areas covered included how to approach evidence during interviews, identify possible deception and question suspects in revenue-related crimes.
Practical exercises and mock interviews were included to give the officers an opportunity to apply the skills they had learnt.
Speaking during the closing ceremony on behalf of the DCI, NCIA Chief Instructor Solomon Musai said proper interviewing was an important part of building investigations and ensuring justice is served.
“Professional investigative interviewing strengthens evidence-based investigations, upholds the rule of law and enhances the delivery of justice,” Musai said.
However, the training increased the collaboration between the two organizations in that both recognized the need to get accurate information while investigating any suspected offense.
Investigative interviews are an investigative method where information is sought from people who may be having useful information concerning the case being investigated. The manner in which the interview is conducted influences the usefulness of the information obtained during the process.
NCIA offers specialized training to investigators and officers from other public sector organizations.
The latest training focused on equipping KRA officers with interviewing skills they can use when handling revenue-related investigations while observing the law and professional standards.
