President William Ruto has opened a new Mother and Child Health Complex at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital in Emgwen Constituency, Nandi County, in a move aimed at strengthening maternal and child healthcare services in the region.
The head of state also laid the foundation stone for the KSh500 million Kapsabet County Referral Hospital Complex that’s to be finalized in March 2027.
With this additional 120, bed capacity, the hospital’s bed capacity will be 670, so opening up more specialised services to residents of Nandi County and beyond.
The hospital will also have an intensive care unit (ICU) and high-dependency unit (HDU), as well as maternity theatres and renal care, increasing the hospital’s capacity to manage complex medical conditions.
While at Kapsabet, Ruto also supervised the construction of the 10, 000, seater ultra, modern Kapsabet Stadium, which is being developed to aid in the growth of sports infrastructure and to identify and develop young sporting talent.
The stadium, which is 50 per cent complete, is expected to be ready by December 2026.
It will feature hostels for athletes while in training and to prepare them for domestic and international competitions.
The developments tend to increase the accessibility of health care and improve sport facilities, transforming Kapsabet into a key destination in the country for both specialised medical care and athletics.
