Health Ministry Denies Switching Off Afya Ke System in Murang’a

The Ministry of Health has denied claims that it switched off the Afya Ke system in Murang’a County, saying it neither owns nor manages the platform.

In a statement dated October 15, 2026, the ministry said the system was a private arrangement between the Murang’a County Government and its developers.

The ministry also said it did not have the system’s source code, disputing claims by the county governor that it had switched off the platform.

It further clarified that the Digital Health Agency (DHA) had not refused to certify Afya Ke, noting that neither the developers nor the county government had applied for certification.

The ministry urged the governor to avoid making statements it said could mislead the public and cause concern among residents and healthcare stakeholders.

It maintained that it remained committed to supporting Murang’a’s digital health plans, just as it does for other county governments.

The ministry also assured residents that Social Health Authority (SHA) beneficiaries in Murang’a would continue accessing healthcare services through the established SHA systems without interruption.

It said it remained committed to ensuring continuity of healthcare services and supporting the implementation of digital health systems across the country.
