The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their commitment to tackling organised immigration crime along the Kenya-Ethiopia border.
The commitment was made during a Counter Organised Immigration Crimes Team (COICT) engagement in Moyale, Marsabit County, attended by Deputy British High Commissioner to Kenya Dr. Ed Barnett MBE, senior National Police Service officers, partner agencies and community leaders.
DCI Director Mohamed I. Amin, CBS, OGW, “ndc” (K), was represented by National Criminal Investigations Academy Commandant Ibrahim Jillo, AIG.
In remarks delivered on his behalf, Amin described Moyale as a strategic border town supporting legitimate trade, social interaction and economic opportunities, while warning that criminal networks exploit cross-border movements for illegal gain.
He said COICT represents a shift from addressing individual immigration offences to identifying, investigating and disrupting wider criminal networks.
Dr. Barnett commended the Kenya-UK partnership, noting that cooperation would support human-rights-based approaches for victims while strengthening investigations targeting organised crime syndicates.
The engagement also emphasised inter-agency coordination, professionalism and community cooperation in sharing information on suspicious activities.
The visit concluded with an inspection of newly constructed COICT facilities expected to improve operations and coordination along the Kenya-Ethiopia border.
