On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, President William Ruto held talks with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres, discussing peace and security in Africa.
The meeting highlighted the importance of advancing African-led solutions through the African Peace and Security Architecture.
President Ruto reassured Kenya will remain committed to building peace and strengthening multilateralism as they build a partnership with United Nations in strengthening the UN Office in Nairobi and consolidating Nairobi’s place as the UN’s center in the Global South.
He also praised the leadership of Guterres, as he comes to end his tenure, for his steadfast leadership and advocacy for a fairer international financial architecture, greater African representation and a stronger voice for the Global South.
Ruto noted his greatest tribute to Guterres’ legacy would be the realization of these reforms into reality, which will aim to create a fairer and more inclusive global order.
Kenya, aligning itself with UN while pushing for African-led strategies as a regional stabilizer, could help in coordinating responses to conflicts in places like Sudan, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
