Legendary singer Lionel Richie has been admitted again to the hospital to undergo a heart procedure, canceling three shows.
The 77-year-old has been hospitalized for the third time in three months, this time undergoing an AFib ablation procedure to treat an irregular heartbeat.
The cancellation of the three upcoming tour dates with Earth, Wind and Fire, leaves fans concerned but hopeful for his recovery.
“Lionel underwent a common procedure for Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). The doctor said everything went perfectly. Lionel is doing great but will take some time off and will be back on stage soon,” Richie’s rep said in a statement.
His upcoming concerts were set for September 26 in San Francisco, September 30 in Chicago and October 2 in Columbus. All the concerts for now have been canceled.
His health update comes just days after the “Endless Love” singer stepped out alongside partner Lisa Parigi for a party at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills, California September 20.
Despite the setback, Richie’s representatives insist he will return to performing later this year. His Las Vegas residency at Wynn’s Encore Theater, scheduled for October and November, remains on the calendar for now, though fans await confirmation.
In July, Richie assured that he would slow down on stage and even cancel shows. He has also been candid about his gratitude for fans.
