President William Ruto on Friday, September 18, presided over the passing-out parade of newly trained General Service Unit (GSU) officers as they formally joined the National Police Service.

The ceremony is being held at the National Police College, Embakasi ‘B’ Campus in Nairobi, marking the completion of specialised training for the new officers.

The recruits underwent intensive training at the GSU Magadi Field Campus in Kajiado County, where they were taken through physical endurance, tactical skills, discipline, teamwork and operational readiness.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat had earlier urged the officers to remain disciplined and prepared to serve in any part of the country once deployed.

“You have trained for this moment. Carry the discipline, teamwork and patriotism you have gained here into the field and serve Kenya with honour and commitment,” Lagat told the recruits.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja also challenged the new officers to uphold integrity, professionalism and respect for human rights as they begin their careers.

The passing-out parade marks the transition of the recruits from training into active service, with the officers expected to be deployed to different parts of the country.

Before the parade, President Ruto also opened a new Social Health Authority (SHA) block at the GSU Embakasi Health Centre, aimed at improving access to healthcare for police officers, their families and other eligible beneficiaries.

The ceremony comes as the National Police Service continues to expand and modernise its training and operational capacity ahead of emerging security challenges.

The new GSU officers will now take up their duties in various parts of the country as members of the National Police Service.
