Kenya and South Africa are seeking to strengthen cooperation between their prosecution authorities to improve the fight against transnational crime and enhance access to justice.
Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga held talks with South Africa’s Special Director of Public Prosecutions, Mthunzi Mhaga, during a meeting focused on matters of mutual interest between the two jurisdictions.
The discussions explored ways of deepening collaboration between the prosecution authorities, including cooperation in addressing emerging and cross-border crimes.
Ingonga emphasised the importance of stronger institutional linkages between African prosecution agencies, particularly as criminal activities become increasingly complex and transnational.
The officials also discussed enhancing mutual legal assistance and extradition processes, which are key to facilitating investigations and prosecutions involving suspects, evidence or offences across jurisdictions.
Ingonga called for continued sharing of knowledge, expertise and best practices between Kenya and South Africa to strengthen prosecutorial capacity and improve the administration of justice.
The engagement also reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to expanding bilateral and continental cooperation among prosecution authorities.
The two officials said closer collaboration would support efforts to uphold the rule of law, facilitate effective prosecution of criminal cases and strengthen access to justice across the region.
