President William Ruto has begun a five-day tour of the Nyanza region, holding discussions with more than 10,000 grassroots leaders from Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori counties.
During his first day in the region, Ruto met the leaders at the Kenya Shipyards in Kisumu City, where they discussed development priorities and the government’s national transformation agenda.
The President also called for deeper cooperation between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), saying the partnership had been strengthened following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He said the cooperation between the two parties remains anchored in the Broad-Based Government framework and would support continued development across the country.
The President highlighted what he described as progress made by his administration over the past four years, including stabilising the economy, reducing inflation, strengthening foreign exchange reserves and reviving stalled road projects.
Ruto said the government is now focusing on major infrastructure investments, including the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway from Narok to Kisumu and onwards to Malaba.
The President also pointed to the ongoing Rironi-Mau Summit road project, which will connect Malaba through Eldoret and Kisumu through Kericho, opening up the region to increased economic activity.
