Former Cabinet minister Simeon Nyachae’s son, Michael Moragia Nyachae, has been released on a Sh50,000 cash bail after being charged with allegedly stealing Sh1.2 million from Sansora Group Limited.
Nyachae appeared before Magistrate Caroline Nyaguthie on Friday, September 11, 2026, where he pleaded not guilty to the theft charge.
According to the charge sheet, Nyachae is accused of stealing Sh1,226,036 belonging to Sansora Group Limited on diverse dates between March 28, 2019 and September 28, 2021 in Kisii County.
The prosecution charged him under Section 268(1), as read with Section 275 of the Penal Code.
Through his lawyers, Nyachae asked the court to release him on bail, arguing that the circumstances surrounding the case warranted the court’s discretion.
“In granting bail, we are asking for the court to exercise discretion, and we can tell you without doubt that the person before you belongs to a distinguished family,” his lawyer told the court.
His lawyers also described the case as “smoke without fire” and told the court that Sansora Group Limited, the company named in the charge sheet, is a family company.
The court subsequently granted Nyachae a Sh200,000 bond or Sh50,000 cash bail and directed that the case be mentioned on September 29, 2026, for pre-trial directions.
The court said it had taken into consideration the peculiar circumstances of the case when issuing the bail terms.
Nyachae now awaits the next court appearance as the prosecution and defence prepare for the case to proceed.
The allegations relate to transactions said to have taken place several years ago, and Nyachae remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by the court.
