Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called on African countries to strengthen the mobilisation and investment of domestic capital to drive economic growth, infrastructure development and job creation.

Representing President William Ruto at the inaugural Africa Capital Week 2026 in Nairobi, Mudavadi said Africa has significant financial resources but faces the challenge of converting its capital into productive investments that benefit its people.

He noted that African institutional investors hold more than US$1.1 trillion in assets, describing the figure as a major opportunity to finance the continent’s development.

Mudavadi said economic sovereignty should not be interpreted as isolating Africa from global markets, but rather as strengthening the continent’s ability to engage international investors from a position of greater financial and institutional strength.

He emphasised the need for deeper capital markets, resilient institutions and investment-ready projects to attract and deploy capital effectively.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary said Kenya is prepared to share its experience in capital-market reforms and collaborate with partners to strengthen Africa’s ability to finance its own development.

As he officially opened Africa Capital Week 2026, Mudavadi urged stakeholders to move beyond discussions and commitments towards actual transactions, investments and productive use of capital.
