Former High Court Judge Joseph Mbalu Mutava has died suddenly after falling ill on Friday night while being rushed to Makindu Hospital in Makueni County, close family has reported.
He was the husband of Kibwezi East Member of Parliament (MP) Jessica Nduku Mbalu. His death has been confirmed by former Machakos Senator and Parliamentary Commission Commissioner Johnson Muthama.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my long-time family friend, former High Court Judge Justice Joseph Mbalu Mutava, husband to Kibwezi East MP Hon. Jessica Nduku Mbalu,” Muthama said.
Mutava had attended a burial ceremony earlier in the day and was reported to be in good health before falling ill.
Justice Mutava was appointed to the High Court on August 23, 2011, was part of the first group of judges selected under the new 2010 Constitution reforms. However, his career took a dramatic turn when he was accused of misconduct in handling the Goldenberg scandal case, a multi-billion shilling financial scandal.
His body was later transferred to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi as the family begins to make arrangements for his final rites.
