The continued redevelopment of Thika Stadium aims to upgrade the sports facility to a modern sports complex. This development won’t only open doors for young talents in Kenya but also support the country’s economy.
Pricipal Secretary for Interior, Raymond said that investing in new sports facilities is essential to unlocking the potential of young athletes and strengthening Kenya’s position as a global sporting powerhouse.
“The ongoing redevelopment of Thika Stadium is reversing that trend, transforming a once-neglected facility into a modern sports complex that will nurture talent, inspire communities and stimulate local economic growth.” said Omollo
The project being undertaken by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is expected to complete before December 2026, providing Kenyans a beautiful internationally standards, compliant stadium holding roughly 10,000 seats.
The modern facility will feature FIFA-stadium football pitch, eight, lane athletics track, state-of-the, art showers, ultra, powerful lights for night matches, a basketball court and a swimming pool.
According to Omollo, the redevelopment is already generating employment for hundreds of young people while supporting local businesses through the procurement of construction materials and services.
In addition, the sports centre will offer opportunities for developing talents at the grassroots level and hosting regional competitions, making Thika one of the most important areas for sporting activities and leisure.
The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is providing implementation through the coordination of the government departments and agencies.
The provision of secure environment and the strengthening of the local community partnerships to ensure that the development delivers the necessary public benefits.
