The State Department for Trade convened a meeting with the Trade and Private Sector Development Joint Sector Working Group (JSWG) to review the Terms of Reference that will guide its operations, strengthen coordination, enhance policy coherence and revitalize stakeholder engagement across the sector.
The meeting brought together representatives from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), the Council of Governors, Development Partners, Civil Society Organizations, Academia and the Private Sector.
The exercise is aimed at refining the group’s mandate, ensuring clarity in roles and responsibilities while enhancing coordination and policy coherence that will revitalize stakeholder engagement. The JSWG seek to create a more inclusive and effective platform for trade sector development.
At the meeting, Principal Secretary for Trade Regina Ombam emphasized the importance of a functional and well-coordinated JSWG driving an impactful trade through effective resource mobilization, strengthened coordination and alignment of projects with government priorities.
This will boost Kenya’s competitiveness by coordinating development partner support for export and import facilitation, trade investment and industry policy reforms, trade sector transformation and expanded market access.
