Two suspected phone snatchers have been arrested in Nairobi following a police operation targeting criminal gangs believed to be behind a series of mobile phone thefts in the city.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Shauri Moyo Police Station arrested the two suspects during a routine patrol along Digo Road on Thursday as part of ongoing efforts to curb street crime in the Nairobi Region.

Police said the suspects are believed to be members of a notorious phone theft ring that has been targeting unsuspecting members of the public in the Gikomba and Digo Road areas.

“Officers from Shauri Moyo Police Station in Nairobi Region, while on patrol along Digo Road yesterday, arrested two suspects believed to be notorious phone snatchers who have been preying on unsuspecting members of the public within the Gikomba and Digo Road areas,”he said.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of five assorted mobile phones suspected to have been stolen during separate incidents. Investigators have so far traced three victims who have positively identified and claimed ownership of their phones.

The arrests are part of sustained police operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks through routine patrols, intelligence-led investigations and rapid response to reported crimes.

The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to protecting members of the public and maintaining pressure on criminal gangs operating in the capital.
