Newly elected Ol Kalou MP Sammy Ngotho on Tuesday boarded a matatu to Parliament for his swearing-in ceremony.
The first-time lawmaker shared photos and a video of himself travelling in the public service vehicle alongside his supporters, a move that quickly caught the attention of Kenyans online.
In a message posted on his social media pages, Ngotho thanked God and the people of Ol Kalou for entrusting him with the seat.
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” — Psalm 118:24.
“On our way to Parliament for the swearing-in ceremony. Grateful to God and the people of Ol Kalou for this honour,” he wrote.
The unusual journey stood out as many leaders are often seen arriving at official functions in private vehicles or government convoys.
Ngotho was elected as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou in the recent by-election, becoming the first MP elected on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket.
His swearing-in officially marks the beginning of his term in the National Assembly, where he will represent the people of Ol Kalou Constituency.
