Two suspects linked to a phone-snatching syndicate that has been terrorising residents of Madogo Township and its surrounding areas have been detained for 15 days as detectives continue investigations into the criminal network.

The suspects identified as brahim Ali and Osman Kulumiye appered before Garissa chief magistrate’s court on Tuesday, 20th July 2026. Magistrate, having considered their case, ordered that they stay in custody at Gariska Police Station for the police investigators’ convenience and the conclusion time of the case.

The two had been taken into police custody earlier in the same week during a combined law enforcement operation with detectives, which was based on tip-offs obtained by intelligence personnel.

Police officers seized 105 different mobile phones, 2 computers and countless other phones accessories, many of which probably have been taken away.

Investigators are now working to establish the rightful owners of the recovered electronic devices while expanding investigations to identify and apprehend other individuals suspected of being part of the criminal.

Authorities have urged members of the public who may have lost mobile phones or other electronic devices in the area to cooperate with investigators as efforts continue to dismantle the syndicate and reunite victims with their property.

The ongoing probe forms part of a broader crackdown on organised phone theft and related crimes in Garissa County aimed at improving public safety and curbing criminal activities.
