The government has demonstrated its support for the strengthening of security and ease of obtaining national identification documents for the Coast region Mostly at the time of the withdrawal of extra vetting requirements that used to apply to ID applicants.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo presided over a consultative meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Hassan Ali Joho, and the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports Salim Mvurya, as well as the leaders from the Coast sub-county. During the meeting, various government programmes were brought under review with their execution.
The meeting focused on enhancing security and ensuring that eligible citizens can conveniently access national identification cards and other government services following President William Ruto’s directive to abolish additional vetting requirements.
Speaking at the meeting, PS Omollo pointed out that the Coast region being a Kenyan frontier, a maritime gateway with border management, and a player in trade, transport and the maritime economy is vital to the security of the state.
Besides strengthening security, the government pledge to enhance easier access to national identification documents. The consultative meeting included Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, Lamu Governor Issa Timamy and Governor of Tana River Dhadho Gaddae Godhana.
