Kenya’s online government service eCitizen, has announced a temporary closure on its platform for scheduled system maintenance.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, it stated the maintenance will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 7:00 PM to midnight.

“The Directorate of eCitizen Services wishes to notify all users of the eCitizen platform that there will be a scheduled system maintenance on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 7:00 PM to midnight,” the notice stated.

The upgrade is expected to streamline transactions, reduce delays and strengthen security for millions of Kenyans. The platform offer services ranging from passport applications and business registrations to driving licenses and other government services.

The Directorate emphasized the maintenance is necessary to keep pace with the growing demand and evolving digital infrastructure.

“The maintenance is necessary to facilitate an upgrade of the eCitizen payment gateway, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery on the platform,” the notice stated.

eCitizen serving as the central hub of government services, its reliability and efficiency is critical to Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.
