Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has said the ongoing construction of Ol Kalou Stadium will transform Nyandarua County into a leading destination for sports training, talent development, and sports tourism.

In his remarks about the project, Omollo pointed out that Ol Kalou is located at the height of over 2, 400 metres gives it high, altitude conditions that are conducive for endurance training, as it offers opportunities for local and international athletes to get an edge in their competition.

He said that the stadium was one of the main government investments meant to modernize the state-of-the-art sports facilities at the same time giving economic opportunities to the locals.

The stadium has been planned as a state-of-the-art 10, 000, seat stadium and will house an 8, lane 400m standard athletics track paved with a synthetic tartan surface, a standard football pitch with advanced water drainage and a computer, aided watering system, and a top, notch main pavilion.

According to PS, the main structure of the project will also accommodate state-of-art gym and shower facilities as well as a first-class infirmary, a press area with modern media equipment, and a well, equipped VIP lounge that are all designed to handle major national and international sporting events.

The project is in sync with the governments broader efforts to increase the number of sports facilities nationwide and get the country ready to welcome the most important African games. As a preparation, Kenya is also working towards hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (ACFON).

He added, “Our Department (State Department for Internal Security & National Administration) is backing up the flagship project in all phases of the works, from the technical and legal to the coordination of national government and the engagement between ministries, local authorities, professional bodies, and other organizations to deliver the outcome successfully. “
