A man who was publicly slapped by Pastor James Ng’ang’a during a church service has spoken out, saying the incident has left him humiliated and struggling to live his normal life. The incident, which took place at Neno Evangelism Centre, was caught on video and quickly went viral, sparking national debate.
In the footage, Pastor Ng’ang’a is seen walking up to the man—who appeared to be dozing off—slapping him twice and then ordering him to leave the church. The man has since come forward to express his pain and frustration.
“I was not happy with it,” he said. “Somebody to slap me in church for dozing off without asking me why I dozed off isn’t fair.” He went on to explain how the event has affected his daily life. “I can’t sell coffee or melon in peace because people are laughing at me.”
Adding to the burden, he claims he is being wrongly accused of accepting a bribe from the pastor to stay silent. “They say I was bribed by Pastor Ng’ang’a. But he didn’t give me money—just shoes and a suit,” he clarified.
While some people view the slap as a form of spiritual discipline, others—including politicians and human rights activists—have condemned the act as abusive. Many are calling for legal action against the pastor.
