Fourteen suspects arrested in connection with the recent violence and unrest in Kisumu and Nyahururu have been arraigned in court to face various charges, the National Police Service (NPS) has announced.

The police on Monday, July 13, issued a statement in which they said the defendants had been shown in the court after the police investigated the disorder that caused a disruption in the public order in the areas affected.

Maintaining peace in the society, the police said, remains the role which they’ll do by lawfully apprehending anyone who commits violent acts, hooliganism, or causes a disturbance to public peace.

“The National Police Service will not tolerate violence, hooliganism, or any disruption of public peace. We remain steadfast in our duty to maintain law and order. Let it be clear: those who choose chaos will be met with the full force of the law,” the statement said.

Further, NPS declared that not only Kenyans at home but also outsiders and travelers are protected by the police officers who are stationed throughout the nation to defend people, their dwellings, and their enterprises. ‘

NPS reiterated their responsibility to safeguard and serve the citizens as
they’re working to the maximum to make sure that Peace, Security, and the Rule of Law are the state of things nationally.

Authorities did not immediately disclose the specific charges facing each of the 14 suspects, saying they would face the relevant offences before the courts.
