Political activist and lawyer Morara Kebaso has announced that he will contest the Borabu parliamentary seat on a Jubilee Party ticket in the 2027 General Election after shelving his own political outfit.

Speaking during an interview on Monday, Kebaso said he had decided to work with Jubilee after assessing the political landscape in the Gusii region, where he intends to seek elective office.

He said his Independent Party of Kenya, popularly known as the Inject Party, would take a back seat for now as he aligns himself with the larger political formation.

“Inject Party will remain in the cupboard. For now, we are working with the Jubilee Party. We have to go with the realities of the politics of the day,” Kebaso said.

The activist explained that his decision was driven by the political dynamics in Kisii and Nyamira counties, arguing that candidates seeking elective positions in the region stand a better chance when they are backed by parties with an established support base.

According to him, it would be difficult for a relatively new party to gain the trust of voters despite having good policies and ideas.

Kebaso also added that despite being sidelined politically by President William Ruto, the power of Jubilee Party will continue to be felt in the region following the recent announcement by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i that he will vie for the presidency as a candidate of the Jubilee party.

According to Kebaso, the aforementioned political reality is what made him change his mind and drop off his initial idea of forming his party to fight for election wins in 2027.

In this regard, it is important to point out that this marks a major about turn for Kebaso whose presidential aspirations were revealed in 2025, when he announced that he will be running for presidency on behalf of Inject Party which was founded then.

Back then, Kebaso outlined some of his key promises as president and among the main ones included undertaking agricultural reforms as well as providing jobs for youth in the country.

After just a few weeks from this announcement however, he suddenly decided to quit politics because he became frustrated by public criticisms.

This time around, his new statement shows that he is back in politics and will be vying for the Borabu constituency parliament seat
