The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has firmly ruled out extension of the 2025 income tax filing deadline, stating many taxpayers are yet to submit their returns before June 30, 2026.
KRA has warned penalties will apply to those who fail to comply, as the concerns have been raised due to technical challenges that have affected some taxpayers attempting to access the iTax system.
The statement issued today has clarified that despite public pressure and rumors of a grace period, the authority will not shift the deadline.
“KRA wishes to remind taxpayers that there will be no extension of the filing deadline. All returns must be submitted on or before 30, June 2026, in accordance with the law,” the tax authority said.
The announcement came as there been queues at Huduma Centres and KRA offices across the country, as many Kenyans are rushing to beat the deadline.
KRA also noted many Kenyans have already filed their returns and urged those not yet to comply not to wait until the last minute, warning increased traffic on the digital platforms could result in slower response in times.
They also said taxpayers can submit their returns through iTax, eCitizen, WhatsApp platform and the USSD code *222*5#. They have extended operating hours at its Contact Centre, Huduma Centres, KRA Service Centres and Ushuru Mashinani Service Partners to support last-minute filers.
