What was meant to be a grand cultural showcase for America’s 250th anniversary has turned into a political flashpoint as the U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he has canceled the planned concert in Washington after several artists pulled out.
“We don’t want singers with no talent, but big fees to put you sleep; we’ve told them all to stay home,” Trump said on his Truth Social Network.
“All we want is you, me, a few speakers and the greatest music ever played, the same music you have listened to for years!” he added.
Instead, Trump said he would host a mass rally on June 24, pivoting the celebrations toward his political spectacle. The cancellation will create space to host the UFC fight on South Lawn, as the construction of the arena continues. It will also host The Great American State Fair is set on June and July as the Grand Prix race is scheduled for August.
Trump suggested holding a rally for Make America Great Again, but he didn’t mention the date of the rally.
