Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has strongly condemned the reported attack on Ichuni Ward Member of County Assembly Wycliffe Siocha, describing the incident as cowardly and a direct assault on democratic values and constitutional freedoms.
In a statement shared on social media, Matiang’i said the attack on the Kisii County legislator was not only an act of violence against an elected leader but also a threat to Kenya’s democratic foundation, where leaders should serve without fear of intimidation or harm.
“Violence, intimidation, and lawlessness have no place in our democracy. Every leader, regardless of political affiliation or opinion, has the right to serve the people without fear of harassment, threats, or physical harm. Political differences must always be resolved through dialogue, debate, and the democratic process, not through violence,’he said in a statement shared on his social media.
He emphasized that political differences must never be resolved through violence, but rather through dialogue, debate, and democratic engagement.
He said intolerance and lawlessness undermine national unity and weaken public confidence in governance institutions.
Matiang’i further called on security and investigative agencies to move swiftly, conduct thorough investigations, and ensure those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.
He further warned that failure to act decisively only encourages impunity and emboldens criminal behavior.
