MCA Robert Alai Resigns from All Nairobi City Assembly Committees

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has distanced himself from a Facebook account operating under his name, telling the High Court that he neither owns nor controls the account at the centre of a defalmation case filed by veteran broadcaster Fred Machoka.

Appearing before Justice Stella Mutuku at the Milimani High Court on Wednesday, Alai maintained that he does not have a Facebook account, either in his name or under a pseudonym.

The MCA is being sued by Machoka over alleged defamatory statements said to have been published on a Facebook account bearing the name “Robert Alai.”

However, Alai told the court that the only social media platforms he uses are TikTok and X, formerly Twitter.

In a revelation that is likely to attract public attention, the former blogger said he joined TikTok this year and opened his X account in 2025.

The testimony now places the spotlight on the ownership of the disputed Facebook account, a key issue that could shape the outcome of the case.

Machoka, one of Kenya’s most recognizable radio personalities, moved to court seeking redress over statements he says damaged his reputation.

The case also raises broader questions about accountability in the digital age, where public figures increasingly find themselves battling claims involving social media accounts whose ownership is contested.

With Alai denying any link to the Facebook page, the court is expected to examine evidence presented by both sides to determine who was behind the posts that triggered the lawsuit.

The matter is scheduled to proceed as the court continues hearing the case.
