Actor Idris Elba, known for his performances with the best performing movie “The Wire and Luther,” has officially been awarded a knighthood by King Charles III at Windsor Castle in New York.

The 53 year old was accompanied by damehood for Olympic champions Dame Jayne Torvill and Sir Christopher Dean for services to ice skating and to voluntary service.

In the grand ceremony, Idris knelt before the King, sword resting lightly on his shoulder as he was formally recognized for his services to young people and the arts.

Actress and comedian Dame Meera Syal, known for The Kumars at No. 42 and Goodness Gracious Me, was also recognized for service to literature, charity and drama.

Idris founder of the Elba Hope Foundation in 2022, supports community empowerment, education, youth advocacy and sustainable development, helping many people.

Dame Jayne is a celebrity ambassador for children’s hospice in the South East for more than 20 years, while Sir Christopher Dean has served as the head coach and mentor for the British Ice Skating Academy of Dance.

Dame Meera is an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society, help from the charity following her father’s dementia diagnosis. She is also part of the Kisharon, a charity for Jewish children, youth and adults with learning disabilities and autism.

Elba’s knighthood has not only established him as one of the Britain’s most celebrated actors but also a role model for resilience resonating globally.
