The Ministry of Health has convened a high-level preparedness meeting bringing together directors and heads of divisions to assess Kenya’s readiness to respond to Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and other emerging public health threats.
According to the Ministry, although Kenya has not recorded any confirmed Ebola case, it continues to scale up surveillance systems, border screening, laboratory diagnostic capacity, emergency response mechanisms, and coordination frameworks aimed at ensuring early detection and rapid response to any potential outbreak.
The meeting reviewed the evolving regional Ebola situation alongside other disease threats, with discussions focusing on national and county preparedness levels.
“The Ministry of Health today convened a high-level preparedness meeting bringing together Directors and Heads of Divisions to assess Kenya’s readiness to respond to Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and other emerging public health threats,”Ministry said in a statement.
Key areas assessed included healthcare worker readiness, infection prevention and control measures, community engagement strategies, and the availability of critical supplies such as personal protective equipment, isolation facilities, medicines, vaccines, and emergency response commodities.
Participants also examined directorate-specific action plans, accountability structures, and inter-ministerial coordination frameworks designed to enhance a whole-of-government approach to public health emergency preparedness and response.
The Ministry reiterated that it remains on high alert and committed to safeguarding public health through strengthened preparedness, enhanced surveillance, and timely response to any potential disease outbreaks across the country.
