President William Ruto has pledged further investments in teachers training and education reforms to enhance human capital development in Northern Kenya.

Speaking during a development tour to the region, the President said that the government has set up teacher training colleges in Wajir, Kotulo and Mandera to supplement Garissa Teacher Training College thereby increasing opportunities for the youth to access teacher education.

The President said there are over 4, 600 teacher trainees from the North in the institutions who will help to create the necessary skilled manpower to dictate the future of the region.

“More than 4,600 young teacher trainees from this region are currently enrolled, building the human capital necessary to transform the future of Northern Kenya.” he said

Ruto also explained that opening training centers for teachers has to be seen as great effort by government to find ways and means of increasing access to quality education to every part of the country.

Also, the President announced that the Ministry of Education has been instructed to establish a system for incorporation of Duksi, the Madrass and the Programme for Pastoral Instruction into the general education system.

According to Ruto, the initiative proposes to develop inclusive learning routes that map out the real, culturally and aspiration, wise communities and kinks of accessibility and quality.

The reforms will likely to enhance educational access in pastoralist areas and build a more accountable and accessible education system in Northern Kenya.
