The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has intensified efforts to strengthen pharmacovigilance and maternal immunisation safety surveillance across the country following a stakeholder meeting held in Machakos on May 29, 2026.

The meeting brought together County Pharmacovigilance Focal Persons alongside representatives from Kenyatta National Hospital and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital to enhance monitoring, reporting and coordination of pharmacovigilance activities aimed at improving patient safety.

Discussions focused on strengthening maternal immunisation safety surveillance systems and equipping county teams with the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively implement pharmacovigilance activities at the grassroots level.

PPB reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating closely with County Pharmacovigilance Focal Persons to ensure efficient coordination and implementation of safety monitoring systems for health products and technologies.

The Board noted that stronger pharmacovigilance systems are critical in safeguarding public health by ensuring the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines, vaccines and other health products used across the country.

During the meeting, PPB also recognised Pharmacovigilance Focal Persons from Samburu, Kilifi, Nakuru, Meru, Siaya and Nyeri counties, as well as Kenyatta National Hospital, for improved reporting performance in pharmacovigilance activities.

The initiative forms part of ongoing national efforts to strengthen healthcare systems and enhance patient safety through timely reporting and monitoring of adverse drug reactions and immunisation-related events.
