President William Ruto has revealed that the government has made a significant step towards unlocking the long-standing land issues in the Coast by issuing more than 33,000 title deeds to Mombasa residents.

While addressing a crowd at Mama Ngina Waterfront after returning from State visits abroad, the President stated that the Government is currently mobilizing resources to issue additional 200,000 title deeds which will be distributed within 90 days along the Coast.

President Ruto said that the project will serve over one million people and will put an end to the decades of uncertainty over the land ownership in the area.

“Our goal is to ensure that residents are no longer squatters, but legitimate landowners with a place they can proudly call home. We are ending years of suffering and freeing them from the mercy of absentee landlords.” said Ruto

According to President, the coast land issue that has remained unresolved for a very long time is now being tackled by a series of targeted Government actions geared at providing residents with legal ownership papers.

As part of the measures geared towards resolving historical land ownership conflicts, President Ruto further stated that in the last three years the government has issued 1. 5 million title deeds countrywide while addressing the land ownership disputes and economic empowerment were enhanced.

Besides that, he noted that the Coast region only has received 381,000 title deeds in the same period, calling the programme a permanent solution to the land injustices that have affected many communities for years.

President has reassured the Government’s dedication towards speeding up land reform and making sure that Kenyans obtain land tenure security of their property.
