The National Police Service (NPS) has assured Kenyans of adequate security ahead of a planned matatu strike scheduled for Monday, May 18, saying measures have been put in place to maintain law and order across the country.
In a press statement issued from the National Police Service headquarters, the police noted that the strike is being orchestrated by a minority group of matatu operators and players in the public service transport industry, while the majority in the sector remain committed to continuing normal operations.
According to the statement, The United Transport Association of Kenya (UTAK) has contradicted its members plans to go on strike and reaffirmed their commitment to an uninterrupted transport system.
The NPS urged members of the public to remain calm and continue with their daily activities without fear, emphasizing that enhanced security arrangements have already been deployed to ensure the safety of commuters, businesses, and transport operators.
Police cautioned that those exhibiting unruly behaviour and any instances that breach public security will be dealt with firmly by law.
The service also appealed to Kenyans to cooperate with the police and report any suspicious or unlawful activities through the emergency toll-free numbers 999 and 911
