President William Ruto has announced that Kenya and Tanzania are targeting KSh130 billion in new trade and KSh65 billion in fresh cross-border investments as the two countries strengthen economic cooperation.
Speaking during the Tanzania-Kenya Business Forum in Dar es Salaam alongside Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Ruto said the ambitious targets will be achieved through the removal of barriers affecting trade and movement of goods and services.
“Kenya and Tanzania have set a target of KSh130 billion in new trade and KSh65 billion in fresh cross-border investments. To achieve this ambition, we must deliberately bring down hurdles that hinder free movement of people, goods and services,” statement read.
The Head of State noted that Kenya and Tanzania have set a June 30, 2026 deadline to eliminate non-tariff barriers, including border delays, restricted market access and non-harmonised standards.
Ruto also said the Joint Business Council and the Tanzania-Kenya Business Forum will play a key role in strengthening collaboration and unlocking more business opportunities between the two nations.
The forum brought together more than 300 business leaders and private sector players from Kenya and Tanzania.
