President William Ruto has announced a Sh1.8 billion investment for the construction and upgrade of two key stadiums in Murang’a County, in a move aimed at unlocking youth talent and strengthening grassroots sports.
Speaking during a church event on Sunday at A.I.C Githumu in Kandara, Murang’a County, the President said the funds have already been set aside for the development of Mumbi Stadium in Murang’a town and Gakoigo Stadium in Maragua.
Ruto told residents that the project is part of a broader government push to expand sports infrastructure across the country, arguing that investment in talent is just as important as investment in roads and other physical projects.
“We have already allocated the resources, and I want to urge leaders and the community to support this project so that it is completed on time,” he said.
The Head of State noted that the two stadiums will serve as platforms for identifying and nurturing young talent, while also giving local communities decent spaces to engage in sports and other activities.
Beyond sports, Ruto linked the project to economic growth, saying construction works will create jobs, while completed facilities are expected to open up business opportunities for traders during matches and events.
Elsewhere, students at Njiiri School were left elated after President William Ruto announced a Sh1 million donation to improve their meals and pledged to deliver a new school bus within a month.
Speaking during a visit to the institution, the President responded to students’ concerns about their diet, assuring them of immediate intervention.
The announcement was met with excitement from the students, who have been pushing for improvements in their welfare, particularly meals.
“Boys, you want to change the diet. How do you want us to change it? You want me to plan something. I will talk with your teacher about that. I’m giving you Sh1 million to change their diet,” he said.
In addition to the cash support, President Ruto committed to sourcing a new school bus, saying he would work with partners to ensure the promise is fulfilled within weeks.
“You have said that you want a good bus. I have a few friends here, and we shall plan. Within the next month, you will have a new bus for the boys. We have finished and agreed on that,” he said.
