Morris Kioko

Morris Kioko was left shocked after discovering that his personal details had already been used to register as a voter when he visited an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) center to apply for his voter’s card for the first time.

During the ongoing nationwide registration exercise, officials informed him that his information was already in the system, having been registered by an unknown person in Garissa County—a location he says he has never visited. The incident has raised serious concerns about identity theft and the credibility of the voter registration process, as Morris now seeks answers and correction from the IEBC.

He claims his name and the National Identity Card has been on the system yet he has never participated in any elections as this was his first time for. He says, he was enrolled at National Youth Service (NYS), Tana River county but not in Garissa county. Information from the voter’s registrations says the registration voters is from Kwale East ICD polling center in Njaranjara, Balambala constituency, Garissa County.

According to IEBC vice chair Faima Abdallah, say its a isolated case that will need thorough investigations while defending, ” stealing votes in Kenya its not possible and the official officers on ground wouldn’t like to loose their job and their life in such cases.”

On such cases it not possible because fingerprints and eye scanning is needed during registration. She requested Morris Kioko if he has any evidence to go seek help and they will follow up.

Morris was requested to wait for investigations and verifications as they investigate on matter. Morris has requested Gen-Z to come out and take voters’ cards.
