Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political and career in the public service are on the line after an impeachment motion against him was tabled in the National Assembly.
Through his lawyers, he has filed several petitions to stop the impeachment process but all have been rejected by the courts.
With Gachagua’s thinning options against his impeachment, political analyst Dismas Mokua opined that the best decision the DP can make now is to resign.
Mokua said this will enable Gachagua to hold another public office in the future.
"Resigning will immunise him from being barred from holding public office in future. This option allows him to reflect and grow political capital for 2027 or prepare for a career outside politics," said Mokua.
The analyst said the deputy president might choose to fight the impeachment motion in parliament, but it would be a losing battle as he lacks numbers.

Notably, 291 MPs appended their signatures in support of the motion.
