Kapsabet School Accident: 1 Dead, 10 Injured After Septic Tank Collapse

A tragic accident at Kapsabet School for the Deaf left one student dead and ten others injured after a septic tank collapsed.

The incident occurred when learners gathered near the roadside within the school grounds to watch President William Ruto’s motorcade pass by. Witnesses said the students stood on the 20-foot-long tank to get a better view, but the structure could not hold their weight and gave way.

Emergency responders, including county disaster teams, rushed to the scene and rescued the injured students, who were immediately taken to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital. Hospital officials confirmed the death of one learner shortly after arrival, while the remaining ten were admitted for treatment and observation.

President Ruto visited the school following the tragedy to offer condolences to students, staff, and the affected families. During the visit, he contributed KSh 5 million to support reconstruction and infrastructure improvements at the school, aiming to enhance safety and prevent future incidents.
