Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno Laid to Rest at His Mogondo Home

The late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno was laid to rest on Friday at his Mogondo home in Emurua Dikirr, Narok County, a few days after he died in a tragic helicopter crash on February 28.

Family members, local residents and leaders gathered for the burial ceremony that was attended by William Ruto and several government officials.

Speaking during the service, President Ruto praised Ng’eno for his efforts to support young people, especially artists from his region. He said the MP had shown strong dedication to helping local talent grow.

Ruto also announced that the government will continue supporting the programme Ng’eno had started to help artists. The President said the government will set aside Ksh20 million every year for the next five years to support the initiative through the ministry in charge of arts.

In honour of the late MP, the President also directed the Ministry of Housing to rename the Shauri Moyo Housing Estate in Nairobi after Ng’eno.

According to the President, the lawmaker played an important role in supporting the government’s affordable housing programme at a time when the project was facing criticism and court cases.

“I’m directing the Ministry of Housing to rename Shauri Moyo Housing Estate to Johana Ng’eno Housing Estate in the city of Nairobi…kwa heshima ya kazi ya ujenzi wa manyumba Mheshimiwa Ng’eno alitoa uongozi wake kama chairman,” Ruto said.

During the ceremony, the President also promised government support to help establish a campus of Maasai Mara University in Emurua Dikirr. The project had earlier been requested by the late MP.

Ng’eno will be remembered by many in his constituency as a vocal leader who was not afraid to speak his mind and who worked closely with his community.
