A heated debate has emerged online after Wasafi’s Head of Digital Operations claimed that Nigerian musician Davido’s concert in Dar es salaam exposed lack of support for Tanzanian Music. The wasafi executive shared on his Instagram stories that, Show ya #Davido ilionyesha kuwa media na mashabiki wengi hawaupendi mziki wa Tanzania,”

He argued that the overwhelming support directed to Nigerian music stars highlights how local music is often sidelined . Davido recently went on his 5ive Alive world Tour in Dar es Salaam which attracted a fully packed concert in Lugalo Golf Course . The concert drew full crowds, tickets sold out fast and VVIP passes being the first to run out. The venue was full to capacity further cementing the Afrobeat’s strong pull in Tanzania.

Davido’s dominance is visible on streaming platforms. Currently, he has 17 songs charting on Apple Music tanzania with numerous songs ranking in the top 10 highlighting his growing influence in the music matrket. While most fans agree with the Wasafi executive statements, stating that International artistes often receive more hype in the media compared to the local stars, others still agree that Tanzanian music thrives both locally and globally.
