Youth leaders from Etenje Ward in Mumias West Constituency, Kakamega County, have called on young people to be very careful when choosing leaders. They warned against politicians who have no clear and sustainable development agenda.
They told youth leaders that they have an important duty to educate their communities when the election of 2027 is coming. They said ignorant electorates lead to bad leadership and unfulfilled promises cycle.
The leaders attributed the wrong electoral choices partly to low levels of civic education as most voters are easily influenced by campaign period handouts. The group also pointed out that communities usually suffer neglect after elections while the elected leaders have little or no development achievements to show.
In their speech, the youth gave a challenge to other young people to say NO to transactional politics and instead look at the candidates’ past performances, policy proposals, and long, term plans for job creation, infrastructure, education, and health.
