The Islamic Republic of Iran Embassy in Nairobi has issued a statement expressing shock and condemnation to a sudden outbreak of violence in a number of Iran cities, and urging the world to see the series of events as a coordinated terrorist campaign rather than peaceful demonstrations.
According to the Embassys Department of Public Diplomacy and Media, the first signs of unrest on December 28, 2025, originated mainly from bazaars and guild merchants who were gathering to express their economic grievances.
The grievances were basically about the changes in the foreign exchange rates that, as everyone knows, have a major impact on the real purchasing power of the average citizen. The Iranian government initially gave a good example of self, control as it opened avenues for a constructive dialogue with the protesters, seeking ways of meeting their demands.
Furthermore, a number of economic measures were planned and implemented to address the concerns of the people. These actions prove that the authorities were not only willing to recognize the right of citizens to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression but that they are also upholders of these rights both at home and at the international level, as guaranteed by Iran’s Constitution and international legal frameworks, including the ICCPR.
However, the Embassy in its statement informs that the initially peaceful protests were soon seized by terrorists cells and violent separatist groups who, according to the Embassy, are also in contact with foreign coordinators. Security agencies have reportedly uncovered evidence of armed and pre, planned attacks, including intercepted communications and seized weaponry.
The next phase of the uprising was called a terrorist war against the country. This was the main reason the government portrayed the situation as the onset of a full, blown war. The focus was on the extreme brutalities inflicted by these extremist groups.
They beheaded people, burned them alive, killed policemen, and so forth. They deprived the world of the most essential services by attacking directly the infrastructures for the services like ambulances, fire engines, hospitals, and places of worship, thus creating havoc and disheartening the people.
On the occasion of the incidents, the Iranian Government sent condolences to the victims’ families of both, the civilians and the security personnel, who had died during that tragic violence.
It also made a promise to the people that it would continue to protect them and keep the law and order while simultaneously respecting the rights of peaceful expression and assembly.
