Makueni first governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana has returned to teaching after two decades in politics

The 70-year-old Harvard graduate landed job at Daystar University Law school as a professor.

“I thank God for the opportunity to return to academia after a hiatus, now serving at the Daystar University Law School as Professor, after a previous 25-year tenure at UoN” Kibwana announced today.

Adding, “Another new beginning. I eagerly anticipate engaging in the Master of Laws Programme starting January 2025. Where the youth are, I pray I always be there”.

After he obtained a bachelor’s degree in law from UoN aged 23 years, he was hired in 1977 by the university and up to 2002 when he left to join politics, Kibwana rose from Associate Professor to Dean of the Faculty of Law and chairman of the Department of Private Law.

He was the spokesperson of the National Convention Executive Council from 1997 to 2002.

In 2002 he was elected MP for Makueni. He was then appointed Minister of both Land and Settlements and Environment and Natural Resources.

In January 2008, he was appointed as Presidential Advisor for Constitutional, Parliamentary & Youth Affairs in then President Mwai Kibaki’s office and served until September 2012.

He served as Governor for two terms.  He harboured presidential ambitions but never really gave the high office a shot.

Last year he announced his exit from active politics.
