The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC, has made the announcement of the restart of the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, in various constituencies, in preparation for the 2027 General Elections.
In a statement, the commission said the exercise will resume on Monday, the 12th of January, 2026, focusing on the regions whose voter registration was earlier suspended to facilitate the November 27, 2025, by-elections.
The affected constituents cut across different regions, namely Magarini, Galole, and Fafi for Coast; Machakos Town, Turkana North, Turkana West, Samburu North, Moiben, Keiyo for the rest of the country. Others are Ugunja, Chesumei, Tiaty, Baringo North, Baringo Central, Baringo South, Mogotio, Eldama Ravine, Narok North, Kajiado Central, Khwisero, Kabuchai, Kasipul, West Mugirango, North Mugirango,
IEBC argued the decision is intended to afford qualified Kenyan voters who did not participate in previous registration exercises the opportunity to enroll themselves or change their personal information before the upcoming general election.
“Continuous Voter Registration allows citizens who have attained voting age, changed residence or simply want to update their details to register on a continuous basis,” stated the commission, encouraging residents of the affected constituencies to take part in the registration process.
The distribution of the CVR stay collections had been paused in these areas owing to the need to maintain integrity in the by-elections held at the end of last year.
Eligible citizens can register by reaching the constituency registration centres along with their national identity cards. The exercise will take place from Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm.
IEBC also called on Kenyans to check their voter registration details online or physical offices to avoid last-minute disputes considering that the 2027 elections are drawing nearer. IEBC stated that registration is fundamental to ensuring Kenyans attain correct voter listing and allocation to the right voting stations.
However, the voter registration exercise will still be suspended in the Mbeere North and Malava constituencies pending the determination of election petitions filed there.
In Mbeere North, the High Court is presiding over a petition contesting the election of MP Leo Wamuthende. The Chief Justice of the Kenyan judiciary, Martha Koome, appointed Justice Richard Mwongo to oversee the petition at Embu High Court after the tightly contested by-election of November 27.
The by-election was between the ruling United Democratic Alliance party and the Democracy for Citizens party, whose affiliation is with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Two citizens have since moved to court challenging the results, and the constituency will not feature in the voter registration exercise until the dispute is resolved.
However, the IEBC stated that it will communicate further once the legal processes in the affected constituencies were completed.
